This is a quick tutorial showing you how to start a Google Chat inside an email. Using the People Widget, you can open a chat window, and automatically cite the email you have opened.

1. While in your Gmail or Google Apps inbox, open an email

2. On the right side of your screen, you will notice the People Widget

  • This contains some useful information about your contact, including name and G+ photo.
  • If you click on the ‘Show details’ link you will see recent mail, upcoming events, and shared documents.

3. Clicking on the green speech bubble will open a Chat window with your contact

  • This chat will automatically include a link to the email you are viewing, so your contact will know exactly what you’re referencing.
