The new Google Groups interface can be a little difficult to navigate, since many of the familiar elements have moved or changed in pretty serious ways.

For example, it’s much more complicated for a Group member (not a manager or owner) to view the list of members in a Group. Why? It’s simply poor labeling of a button!

  1. That Manage button is there because the account in the video (at 1:11: president@gooruvideos.com) is an owner or a manager of the group, which is why clicking that button goes to the member management view. Non-manager users should have a Members button (as long as the group allows members to view the membership list), which goes to a more basic view. They definitely shouldn’t be able to see the management view of the members list.

  2. Hi,

Can you help? I still cannot see a list of members of my group after following your advice. I am a manager of the group.

    Thanks!

  3. I have a group to which I am posting topics. Up to 14th January topics were appearing on the group’s page. Since then they are not. They appear in the Pending Questions to Review, but once reviewed they disappear. Emails do go out to the members where applicable. Have you any idea what would cause this?

    • Saville,

While you’re inside of the group, click on the settings gear in the top right corner of your screen and select Group settings.

A navigation bar will appear on the left-hand of your scree, select the Permissions tab.

From there you can manage the Basic permissions and Posting permissions. Make sure that everyone you want to post to the Group has the ability based upon your Permission settings.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you’re still having issues after giving that a try.

      • Thanks for getting back to me.

I have checked these settings against another group which I use as a test and which works fine. They are the same. It is also odd it stopped working on a particular day, when we did not make any known changes. Could it be that the group setup is corrupted and if so, is there a way of reverting to the original setup without loosing posts?

        Many thanks

        Saville

        • Saville,

You can try reverting back to the old Groups interface.

TO do so, click on the ‘My Settings’ button at the top of your screen while in Groups.

You should see an option to ‘Revert to the old Google Groups’.

Let me know if that helps at all.
