One of our favorite third-party tools, FlashPanel, has integrated an admin tool into the chat feature for Google Apps. This tool, called the Apps Butler, allows admins to immediately recall employee contact info and broadcast messages to their entire organizations while using Google Chat. There are a number of great features that the Apps Butler provides, but I’m going to walk you through the broadcast process below.
1. Make sure you, and everyone in your organization has enabled chat with the Apps Butler
2. Open a Google Chat window with the Apps Butler
3. Type: /broadcast (your message here) to send a quick message to your organization
- For example, to notify everyone of an important upcoming meeting, I would type: /broadcast meeting in the conference room in 5 minutes.
I hope you enjoyed this introduction to FlashPanel and Apps Butler, and as always, leave us a message in the comments section below if you have any questions. Thanks!
Genius!!! Thanks for sharing. This is a great resource. I wish I could get my domain admin to look at some of these other features for our school.

Awesome! A follow up video on using advanced Apps Butler commands would be very appreciated!
Working on learning about all the tools in the flash panel, I am sure this is a silly question but when or how do I get the apps butler in my chat window. So I can use it the same way you used it in this video?
Not a silly question!
In order to use FlashPanel, you first have to be invited by your Google Apps admin. After your admin has invited you, the Apps Butler will appear in your Chat window, with a message saying something like “Apps Butler wants to chat with you. Do you accept?”
Accept the invitation and you’re ready to go!
