Gooru Tip - Maximize the video player and adjust video quality for optimal viewing!
This video was brought to you by Spanning.
Google Drive has always been a great place to store HTML, JavaScript and CSS files so they are secure and available from anywhere. Now you can host and share this content too! Watch this video to learn more.
To host a web page on Google Drive:
- Create a folder in Google Drive and set the sharing permission to “Public on the Web.”
- Upload the HTML, JavaScript and CSS files for your web page to the new folder.
- Select the HTML file, open it and click the “Preview” button in the toolbar.
- Share the URL (it will look like www.googledrive.com/host/…) and anyone can view your web page!
Nice.
Could this be used to host CSS/JS files for your site?
Are these files on Google Drive on a CDN?
Are you aware of any bandwidth/concurrent use issues?
Andy,
I’m not aware of any bandwidth limitations or anything of that nature. I’ll keep this post updated if I learn of any new information.
Thanks, that would be great.
I remember years ago there were some limits.
I might try on small site and see how that goes and then see what happens on a larger site.
Could be a good way to get a free CDN for your JS and CSS files.
Nice tutorial, but I would like to add that an extra last step in order to get rid of those long random URLs: just copy the folder ID (e.g. 0BzEbtMoF6IXbaVN2Qmx1em9qS0k), go to GDriv.es and paste it there. Next, choose our own short and unique alias and now you will have a nice to remember URL with deep linking.
Thanks for this video. I have a few videos, sound tracks and images on my Google drive. Can I refer to those files in my html/css? If so how? Do those media files need to be made public? Also, is there a way to map the URL to a friendly URL that people can remember?
