How to Hide Domain Aliases and Nicknames from the Global Address List in Google Apps

Google Apps used to do this by default, but a recent change has allowed Domain Alias email addresses to show in the Global Address List, and thus the type-ahead contacts in Gmail, Google Docs, etc.

You can turn this off by changing a setting in the Control Panel. Check out the video to see how!

  1. That is helpful but what if I WANT nicknames but also want to hide the domain aliases? Some users have their legal names as the email address but we create nicknames for my users to be able to find them by the name they are known by.

  2. Hey Allen – it looks like there’s currently not a way to do that, unfortunately. I’ve seen that exact request in a few product forum threads so hopefully it’s been heard at Google and will be implemented soon!
