I’m sure you’re all familiar with one of the most common ways to save media files on the internet. Most of us have this process down to a science.

We see an image we like, right-click it (or CTRL+Click) and save it to our desktop (or any other local folder). The issue with storing to your computer is that you can’t access these files in the cloud. But that’s what Google Drive is for!

With the Save to Google Drive Chrome Extension you can save these files like you normally would, but to your Drive instead. That way you can access them from any device, anywhere with an internet connection.

A recent update to Gmail and Google Calendars makes scheduling events even easier. From now on, if someone sends you an email with event details (time and/or date) you can easily add it to your Calendar.

The text appears with a faint dotted-line beneath that opens an event creation window when clicked. You can view your upcoming events to make sure nothing conflicts and change the event title, date and time.

The original email is also linked to the event so you can always check back for more details. I’ve found this particularly useful for users who aren’t familiar with how to send an event invitation, or interacting with people with other email systems (not Gmail / Google Apps).

One of the best ways to stay up to date with your Google Plus activity is through the notifications icon at the top right of your inbox. One of our favorite features is the ability to +1, post or reply to comments from the notifications icon.

If you choose to receive your Google Plus notifications via email, you can reply just like you would any other email. Just another example of great cross-platform integration with Google Plus!

It’s important to keep in mind that, because these are experimental features, Google makes no promises with regards to their behavior (similar to the Gmail/Calendar Labs).

When the unfortunate retirement was announced, we suggested our users take a look at Feedly, a similar product that also makes the transition process extremely easy.

The main issue we’ve heard with Feedly has nothing to do with the product itself. Most users are just upset that Feedly is not Google Reader. We’ve found a great Chrome Extension that aims to make the transition process even easier.

The Feedly Reader Chrome Extension takes your Feedly RSS-reader, and turns it into a Google Reader clone. While this Chrome Extension won’t add any additional functionality, it does create an interface that should be much more familiar for Google Reader fans.

A recent update to Google Drive aims to make online collaboration with Google Docs even better. This time Google has incorporated features of Google Plus and Chat directly into Docs.

The first new feature is Google Plus hovercards for shared Docs. Whenever you open up a shared Doc and another collaborator is viewing at the same time, you’ll be able to pull up their profile picture and other basic information.

The update also includes Google Chat directly into the Doc. This allows for real-time collaboration for all contributors to a Doc. This is definitely an improvement over the traditional commenting system, which will obviously remain so you can reference specific portions of a Doc.

Finally, Google has replaced the generic ‘anonymous user’ identifier with some fun new animal avatars. Let us know what your favorites are!

Fortunately, there is actually an easy way to format the plain text with some special characters.

The formatting is still somewhat limited, but you do have to option to add bold, italics and/or strikethroughs to single words, or a series of words. All you need to do is enclose the word/words with special characters.

Bold – *bold*

Quick Links lives inside your Gmail inbox, and can actually be found in the same place as Chat, directly below the label list. It’s a great place to store all of the emails, searches and settings links that you visit on a daily basis.

For example, instead of searching for ‘Exchange to Google Apps Migration’ and sifting through dozens of emails, I can create a Quick Link. We’re all looking for ways to save time in Gmail, and a Quick Link is a great tool to use.

If you love Google Apps, but feel it lacks some business-specific features, then you’ve probably looked into various Marketplace applications and Chrome extensions. We suggest checking out Apptivo, a free business apps suite that integrates closely with Google Apps.

The Apptivo suite offers a number of business-related apps including CRM, project management and invoicing. While Apptivo is available to anyone, its integration with Google Apps makes it especially appealing to Google Apps customers.

Some Google’s features that are very well integrated include Google Drive, Contacts (for shared contacts) and Calendars. Check out this video introduction to Apptivo for an example of using Apptivo for project management, time-tracking and invoicing.
